Passing of the
Masters
It is with deep regret the we report the
passing of three Martial Arts Master’s that have served as an icon and
inspiration to their respective arts.
|
|

|
The first passing was Mitsunari Kanai Shihan of
Aikido on March 28, 2004. Kanai
Shihan was the first to bring Aikido to New England and served his art
with selflessness and honor. He
will be very much missed by his Art as well as the Martial Arts Community

On April 3, 2004, Grand Master Seikichi Uehara,
the 12th Soke of the Motobu
Ryu system passed away at the ripe old age of 100. Grand Master Uehara studied with Choyu Motobu (Choki
Motobu’s oldest brother) in the style that he would eventually become
Soke. In August 2003, GM
Uehara passed the leadership of the Motobu Ryu system to Master Chosei
Motobu, Choki Motobu’s son. Thus
completing the circle of returning the family system to the Motobu family.

On April 7, 2004, Maestro Peter Urban passed
away. He was a pioneer in the
Martial Arts world. Having
trained with Gogen Yamaguchi, Sensei in Japan, he returned to the United
States and devoted his entire life to his Art, Urban Gojudo.
He will be missed by those closest to him as well as those in the
Martial Arts community. He
was a true symbol of one who followed his beliefs.
