Omaha, Nebraska Seminar

On Saturday, August 13, 2005, Shihan Fumio Demura made his first visit to Omaha in what proved to be a truly memorable event for those people who participated.  They day started off with Shihan Demura doing a children's seminar that was quite unique.  Shihan Demura bowed everyone in using his style's traditional etiquette.  Afterwards, the children were treated to Shihan Demura's unique teaching style which at times resembled 'Mr. Miyagi' of The Karate Kid (whom Shihan Demura doubled for Pat Morita in the film) and at other times felt like you were playing with your favorite Uncle.

The Adult seminar featured participants from as far away as Dallas, Texas and featured both Self-Defense and Shihan Demura's style of using the Bo Staff.  The two hour seminar quickly turned into a three hour seminar as Shihan Demura was more concerned that everyone understand what he was teaching rather than what time it was.  All of the participants were in Awe of Shihan Demura's skill as well as his Traditional yet personable demeanor.  Afterwards, everyone had a wonderful time asking questions and having Shihan Demura sign autographs.

Nick Cerio's Kenpo would like to take this opportunity to thank Shihan Demura for his generosity in taking the time out of his busy schedule (Shihan Demura's organization is in 32 countries and he travels every weekend out of the year) to share his art with us.  We would also like to thank Sensei Tom Scott and his family for making Shihan Demura's stay as pleasant as it could possibly have been.  Sensei Scott continues to show why he is one of the best host's in the business.  Thanks also goes to Shihan Nick Chamberlain and his student's who endured the all night 12 hour ride in 'Fordzilla' to arrive in time Saturday for the seminars.  We hope that everyone had a safe and pleasant jouney home.
